The Punishment shouldn’t be worse than the crime.

The Worried Worker (W2)

Wherever we work, something will go wrong.  And, we’ll have a difficult time with that.  That eventuality is made worse by the fact that all we want to do is find and hang on to happiness.  And, we know that something will go wrong – it has to.

What we want to make sure of is that whatever the punishment is for an error, a wrong-doing, etc., it is fair and balanced with the “crime.”  Sometimes managers use more than a balanced assessment to determine a punishment – sometimes, they’re just mad.

Sometimes – punishments are just bizarre to the person receiving it – and make all the sense in the world to the manager delivering it.

Take the following steps:

·         Avoid punishment

·         Avoid efforts that yield negative outcomes

·         Avoid counting on others to pull their weight

·         Avoid weak people who interact by attacking

Hide under your desk or workstation – be very quiet.

Contrary to many opinions, some avoidance behavior actually works for you.

I’d like to think that I’m reasonable but there are some people that I’d like to see hung - Bernie Madoff is one. How can any punishment even match what he did?

Yes, but there are people who should be hung.
