IM-PALIN

Imin Bizpain

I’m just going to come out and say it. I know it’s not popular. I know I’ll be under attack from my own, but here goes.

I’m a Democrat and I like Sarah Palin.

Let me clarify, I used to be a Democrat. Here’s the thing. Of course, being a woman, I’ve sort of naturally supported women’s rights. But last fall, watching nearly every liberal female leader I had ever admired turn to petty, vicious attacks on Palin, I realized that it’s all just talk.

Ever watch Survivor? On nearly every single season, there comes a point where the women outnumber the men and could easily band together and take them out one-by-one. I always turn to my husband at this point and say, “those boys are going to get taken out.” He laughs and says, “Never happen.” And he’s right.

Listen up liberal ladies. Women’s rights aren’t just for the women who agree with your every view. I’m not saying Palin gets a pass because she’s a woman – but she surely shouldn’t be more viciously attacked because she is either. It was really depressing to watch her being called “stupid,” “a moron,” “a slut,” – attacks that would have been unacceptable had she been wearing pants.

For those of you defending David Letterman, ask yourself – would the joke have gotten the pass it did if the subject had been Barack Obama’s daughter Malia? For some reason, Palin’s motherhood is part of the political discussion – a subject never examined to such degree with male candidates – not to mention every outfit, hairstyle and pair of shoes. How much does one of President Obama’s suits cost? Not important, huh? Damn right, not important.

So Sarah can have her flaws. She can have views I don’t agree with. She can even say stupid things in interviews. I admire her tenacity and her devotion to her family. I think she’s nobody’s pawn and that drives media, politicos and talking heads crazy.  I like her.

And, now she’s one of the 9.5% of Americans who lost their jobs.  Sarah didn’t quit – she resigned!

I don’t know that I agree with this one. Palin wasn’t forced into her role so she’s either naive or stupid or both. Once these people get out there in this public thing, all bets are off - men would be treated differently, that’s true.
