Of course, it could be that you’re and idiot and loser, but in case you’re not, read on.
Leaders that show a tendancy to “look down” on others are either very tall or could be narcissists. It appears that narcissists are the most likely to emerge as leaders, according to an Ohio State University study.
The researchers found that people who score high for narcissism—those who are self-centered, exaggerate their talents, and lack empathy for others—often take control of groups that don’t have leaders. This may not be a surprise to the Worried Worker but we are surprised at the phrase – it’s hard to spell, hard to pronounce and just not as satisfying to utter under one’s breath like asshole, jerk, etc.
In the study, the narcissists saw themselves as leaders, which was pretty much expected. But other group members also perceived the narcissists as potential leaders. So, there you go – we all recognize the jerks in a group, and they’re the ones in charge.
It’s not surprising that narcissists become leaders. They like power, they are egotistical, and they are usually charming and extroverted.
So, the essence is that bosses look down on you because they can and you agree that they should.

There are good leaders and bad leaders - and good and bad followers.
The only way a boss can look down on you is if he’s taller.
People that become bosses have tougher challenges when they realize they have to get things done through people they used to hang out with.
