Right Back At You - Thomas Edison

“I’ll put my money on the sun and solar energy.  What a source of power!  I hope we don’t have to wait until oil and coal run out  before we tackle that.”

The art of being a bad boss

Everybody has a bad boss story. Many of us have so many, we store them on a CD.  But, this one is one of the worst.

It even won the “Most Outrageous” boss prize for the employee in Working America’s (an AFL-CIO community affiliate) third annual Bad Boss of the Year Contest.

Joan of Kansas was asked [...]

When silence isn’t golden

The Worried Worker (W2)

Sometimes there is wisdom in saying nothing. However, saying nothing can run its
own risks when there is something that needs to be communicated.

If you’re the silent type, experts say you run the risk of unnecessary misunderstandings if your lack of communication is merely an avoidance tactic. Saying nothing, especially when emotions are involved, is [...]

Rebuild your Brain through Aerobics

Up until about 10 years ago, it was believed that we were born with a fixed number of brain cells that eventually died out.

Now scientists know that brain cells regenerate throughout our lives.

And one thing seems clear: To keep the sharpest memory you can for as long as you can, get moving. Aerobically, [...]

Minding your online image - be careful!

The Worried Worker (W2)

If you’re worried about making a good impression with an employer, you should probably be thinking about your digital reputation first.

A recent survey says that nearly 50 percent of advertising and marketing executives polled said they go online to find information on prospective candidates. Fourteen percent said they had decided not to hire a [...]

Hypocrites giving advice on the Bailouts?

The Worried Worker (W2)

Just about anyone can get a job in the US, and just about anyone else and can lose one.  Now, what if you are a public figure screaming and shouting about criminals, deceit, liars, scabs and thieves, and then you’re caught using public money to pay for very expensive hookers?

Ok, that narrows this down to [...]

“Go in smelling like poop!”

Mad James

It’s amazing what I hear during work.  I mean, it probably has a lot to do with working in marketing and having the benefit of enjoying the company of very eclectic people. That being said, there are still those moments where I think to myself, “did I just hear that right?”

For example, I was in [...]

My employees want more money and I need to lay them off!

Letter To W2

My employees are in denial.  It disturbs me that in a super bad economy teetering on a depression, I have employees who actually think they should deserve a huge raise or promotion. It boggles my mind that they are not even aware of what the country is going through. Is this a sign of denial [...]

McCain’s First 100 Days as President

The Worried Worker (W2)

Ok, so he really isn’t President, but what if…..

We would have spent less, but lost more?

Vice President Palin would have fixed the Somali Pirate crisis by ordering the Alaskan Navy to intervene.

We would have outlawed Korean Bar-B-Q and bombed North Korea – south Korea would have joined forces with Taiwan and invaded Hong Kong to [...]

My boss swears at me in Email.

Letter To W2

My manager sends these terrible messages in email to the staff to motivate us these phrases like  #@#@###, then tries to send thank you’s for doing a good job.  We pass them around and wonder if his medication needs to be updated.  He’s a good guy, but pretty frantic.  What can we do about it?

Deal [...]
