Memorial Day – United States of America

The Worried Worker (W2)

The last Monday every May, the United State of America celebrates a national holiday for those U.S. men and women who died while in military service.  It is known primarily for American casualties of war or military action.

It is a day across America where the American flag is hoisted up on buildings, in fronts of homes, on little wooden sticks at cemeteries and on even smaller sticks placed into cupcakes and other foods that help families essentially overeat on grilled meats and fat-infused side dishes.

For many, it’s a somber day of thanks to those who defended their country.

Memorial Day 2009 is even more profound given that North Korea reported a nuclear test and the South Koreans reported that they were aware the North also completed a missile test.  Reports suggest that the North did this because “it isn’t getting any attention from the Obama administration.”  If this is true, it’s tantamount to Kim Jong throwing a tantrum that all the attention is going to Iraq and Afghanistan, closing Guantanamo, even Bo the White House dog, etc.

It’s sort of like the Joker being pissed that the Riddler is getting all the attention from Batman.

Could North Korea be the next American war?  Could this be the next military front and the next hotbed for military deaths.  Another place on the other side of the world to bury America’s dead.  Is it right that anyone should die because of a nut case wanting attention?

Memorial Day in America is about those who died in war for America but it unfortunately does little to  show respect to those who simply shouldn’t have died.
