Phew! 6 days and still on track.
Okay, so here’s what’s great about avoiding the internet . . . Tremendously more productive. I had no idea how much time – and more importantly, energy – cruising the internet was zapping.
Here’s the thing . . . you’re buzzing along getting work done and then you think, “Hey, I’ll take a little mental break – just 5 minutes to see what’s going on in the world.”
But 5 turns into 10 and considering what IS going on in the world, not only have you wasted time, but you’re now spending the time you have looking for a chair and rope because everything is SO DAMN DEPRESSING!!!
But here’s the thing. In my “real” world – which granted, has become a lot smaller – things aren’t all bad. I’m busy, our refrigerator has food in it, my kids are happy (they think The Recession is a new band on iTunes – I said, “yeah honey, but I think a couple of band members left and they’re changing their name to The Depression).
In fact, my next-door neighbor just sold their house! And I live in Florida – the housing bust poster child of the country! A client of mine who recently opened an insurance agency told me that against all odds, his business is booming!
What’s so great after six days? I actually got some positive information from real people that I actually speak with – not just text at the end of a keyboard connection. The newspapers are fun to flip through too – my fingers haven’t been this dirty in ten years – awesome.
