Nuns face Lay-offs!

The Worried Worker (W2)

A recent report indicated that New York’s Convent of Mercy was out of funds and had to close.

The convent has been helping those in need for nearly 150 years and, in fact, dates back to the Civil War.

Since 1862, the fortress-like complex has sheltered, educated and nurtured people in need, from Irish orphans to developmentally disabled adults and poor Hispanic children.

And, you know that when times were tough and you were hungry, you could count on a nun to give you a bun.

It’s simply going to cost too much to fix the convent’s structural and safety problems – there is no bailout for the believers.

What does a nun do for work when they’re let go?  Hard to imagine them on line at monster.com and certainly not Ladders.com. or careerbuilder. And, I don’t see them flocking to bizpain anytime soon.

Maybe more prayer?
