We use a lot of temps instead of hiring full timers. Doesn’t this cost more to the company and don’t temps care a lot less than full time employees?
Dear Out of Touch:
Let’s address the ‘don’t temps care a lot less’ comment first. Sorry, but I can’t agree with you on this one. Just because you’re a temp doesn’t mean you don’t care about the work you do. I have found over the years that temps are skilled individuals; but they (like anyone else) need to be properly trained and given the time to ‘ramp-up’ during the learning curve. Many of the temps I’ve hired have gone on to become good contributors and permanent employees. The key to a successful temp staff is knowing how to properly hire for the skills the employer is looking for, and clearly communicated and realistic job duties.
Temps can actually ‘save’ money for firms because they (the company) don’t have to pay for any benefits and that’s a huge savings for companies. Benefits can account anywhere from 20% to 50% of the companies salary cost; therefore, hiring temps can be a true cost saving benefit.
Don’t let the word temp get in your way of how an individual performs! By the way are you feeling insecure?

It’s as hard to train a temp as it is a real employee and then they leave. All we save is some benefit money, but the rest probably costs us more.
I was a temp for years at different jobs. I like to vote with my feet.
