Not sure about yours, but mine has to be right about everything. Even when he’s so clearly wrong, he has to be right. What makes it worse is that people I work with will just sit there and kind of nod their heads and agree with him. He does things that go totally against any smart business thinking in any business environment, and we pretty much follow him because he doesn’t allow any argument – and don’t even ask for a source, or proof. It’s so painful.
And, it extends to just about anything and everything. Fashion, politics, economics, relationships, music, art – mind you this is a guy who hasn’t bought a new shirt in a decade, voted for Bush the first, once, and the second Bush, twice, and still uses cassettes. But, we have to listen to him and his smug comments about everything current even though his head is in the past.
We just allow it and even though there are times that we could speak up, we just quietly bite our tongues and grind our teeth. What good would it do to point out he’s wrong?
College never taught me how to deal with the Boss who’s always right. I guess the Boss really is Number 1 !

My boss is the same freakin’ way! Is there a boss out there who “doesn’t” think they know everything?
Many bosses have to think they know everything because many people around them lack the confidence to move their businesses forward. Besides, they need to cover up for what they don’t know just like everyone else.
I get what you’re saying W2, but what good is it to “pretend” to know what you don’t and base business decisions off of what you really know nothing about?
Because it’s good to do what you can?
Nicely put.
Just look at our economy and all of this makes perfect sense. We are all f*&^#d.
No, a good boss does not always have to be right. If they are smart they’ll listen to the ideas of the people they themselves have hired. Some ideas will work and some won’t, but at least listen. I believe that people that get somewhere in this world are the people that always have an open mind
I agree. How can a person be in a constant state of being if they refuse to be open to the input of others.
There is a fine line between listening to others ideas and listening to others ideas that are worthless and that could put that boss in a serious situation. Only if that boss surrounds himself with a really good crew does this have merit.
